Aesthetic Movement
Adopting the adage of “art for art’s sake,” artists of the Aesthetic movement sought to separate the visuals they portrayed on the canvas or page from the traditional ideas surrounding morality or social consciousness.
Instead, they became fixated on exploring color, form, and design whether simplistic or complex, paying homage to their Pre-Raphaelite predecessors while drawing inspiration from various forms such as geometry or Japanese motifs. Our frames below highlight this sensibility with delicate repeating patterns and clean lines.
